Tesorina: (Italian) Little Treasure.
Our Tesorina is the culmination of over a decade of farming fine winegrapes in the Napa Valley. Made from a barrel selection of the finest lots from our Rocca Family estate vineyards, this wine is our family’s gift to yours, and one that we hope you will treasure for many years to come.
At Rocca Family Vineyards, our Tesorina is our “little treasure”. Simply put, it is the pinnacle of what we do; it is our attempt to encapsulate the very best that our estate vineyards have to offer. This 2009 bottling epitomizes the charming elegance and balance of the vintage, while expressing its intense aromatics and beautiful fruit purity on a rather grand scale. The nose of this wine is simply stunning. It shows a deep core of thick, rich fruit reminiscent of cassis, ripe blackberries, blueberry syrup and black cherries. Time in the glass brings layer upon layer of intriguing complexity: fragrant notes of acacia flowers and violets, stylish mineral elements of graphite and rock dust, and a subtle flourish of eucalyptus. On the palate the wine offers waves of pure, delicious dark fruit. The mouthfeel is rich and expansive, with the sumptuous flavors balanced perfectly by bright acidity. The wine leaves the lingering impression of fresh ripe blackberries, carried seamlessly on a structure of the beautifully resolved, soft silky tannins that are Rocca’s signature. Our 2009 Tesorina is an iconic expression of this wonderful vintage, and is sure to be a future classic.

Our goal at Rocca is to make wines that reflect, as fully and faithfully as possible, the unique characteristics of the vineyards from which they come. To this end, all of our wines are made exclusively from our own organically-farmed, estate-grown grapes, which we selectively harvest by hand in the cool hours of the night. Once the fruit has been picked, we take an emphatically hands-off, non-interventionist approach to winemaking. The grapes are destemmed as gently as possible, and are allowed to ferment with the vineyard's own indigenous yeasts. The wine is then gently pressed off, and transferred into barrels for aging. In assembling the blend for Tesorina, we carefully select individual barrels from the very finest lots of the vintage, in a passionate effort to create the most complete and beautiful expression possible of our estate vineyards. Our 2009 Tesorina was aged for 20 months in 100% new French oak barrels, before bottling in June of 2011.
